Ground Inclination, 2014
asphalt, tiles
475 cm (w) x 203 cm (l) x 15 cm (ht)
installation at Latent Space, Singapore

The work comments on the transformation of space; from a 'Jade House', where the founders of Haw Par Villa exhibited their jade collection to the public, to a present day artist-run gallery.

It consists of using the tiles, which were demolished from the site and placed above wedges of asphalt. It mimics the wavy state of the original chequered floor of the Jade House, serving as a marker to remind us of the vulnerability of space and time.

The installation created a layered dialogue between past-present, used-new, subjectivity-objectivity.
